Andrea Simonti (a colleague of mine here in Dreamworks) told me that the design of this characters shows a strong Don Bluth influence. What do you think?
Well... the influence is not really obvious to me. Thought, I'm not a specialist about Don Bluth. Anyway, this is a cool blog coming into sight. I like your drawings very much. They're really good! Keep blogging :)
Alberto- It may sound strange but the reason of this character is the Ridley Scott movie "The Duellists". I have say that I looove the visual look of that movie. It just fascinate me. The cavalry officers uniforms were great. The way that some materials work under certain light or atmospheric situations intrigued me. So I created this character thinking how to put together some of those materials.
The one bottom left reminds me a bit of something Bluth-esque, but more the motion than the style. Wonky knees and skinniness- Dirk the Slayer right there. Wasn't his style mainly inspired by Ken Anderson and Milt Kahl though?
