Kung Fu Panda Credits

Kung Fu Panda has some 2D animation credits that echoes the opening dream sequence animated in 2D by James Baxter.

For the final credits I animated the Panda. Here is one of the keys and the final frame.

That was outstanding ! Loved the end credits and the opening dream sequence by James Baxter.
(the whole movie was beautifully crafted, but the fantastic 2D work really stood out . )

Shine Studios posted the end credits on their web site:

  11. Kung Fu Panda ROCKS!! LOve the 2D animation!

  12. The animation at the start and end of the picture was really outstanding and beautiful - doing things graphically that are impossible in 3d. I hope someone at Dreamworks or Disney realizes that "2d is not dead".

It's like someone decided: "Well, 'Treasure Planet' and 'Sinbad' were both a flop, therefore, audiences don't want to see 2d animation any more"

  13. Thanks Guys.

I'm glad you all liked the movie. It is really good to hear all these feedbacks.
If you are interested here are the animators who worked on the end credits.

    Panda: Gabriele Pennacchioli
    Shifu: William Salazar
    Tigress: Rodolphe Guenoden
    Tai Lung: Philippe Le Brun
    Mantis: Ken Morrissey
    Viper: Rodolphe Guenoden
    Crane: Simon Otto
    Oogway: Ken Morrissey
    Dad (Duck): Alessandro Carloni
Messenger Goose and Rhino: Pierre Perifel
    Monkey: Gabe Hordos

Flaviano- Yes, I worked with Rodolphe Guenoden. He did all the Kung Fu choreography and gave us classes as well. Kung Fu Panda wouldn't be the movie that is without his huge contribution.

Kent b- I can tell you this: here at Dreamworks, 2D is not dead at all.

  14. Gabriele--you know-you have many many many fans over here across the freeway! : )

What beautiful work from you and the guys/girls...I miss 2D so much. I wish you could post some of the test for Po...but this is so cool to see as it is. Congratulations!

  15. Hey, quick question!

I am glad to see 2D is not dead there (Hooray!!). I've had a couple of traditional animation classes here at Ringling, but my focus is mostly 3D. Does Dreamworks offer classes or opportunities to try out and practice 2D on and off projects, for their animators?

    Thankyee :)

To tell you the truth, I liked the 2D opening and closing credits of KFP better than all the CGI parts, well-done though they were. There's still an energy and expressiveness about good 2D animation that the best CGI can't touch.
